The Baileigh BG-679-3PH is a professional grade 6" x 79" belt grinder that combines a powerful 4 HP motor with three-phase 400V power to deliver unmatched performance for heavy duty metalworking applications.
When you need serious grinding power that won't slow down under pressure, the BG-679-3PH is your answer. This machine is built for fabrication shops, manufacturing facilities, and metalworking professionals who demand reliability and performance every single day. The 152mm (6") wide belt gives you significantly more working surface compared to smaller grinders, which means you'll finish jobs faster and more efficiently.
What sets this grinder apart is its industrial-grade construction. The main drive wheel is precision-machined from solid billet aluminum for optimal strength and longevity. The front idler wheel features aluminum wrapped in polyurethane, giving you the smoothest, most consistent grind possible. The entire frame is constructed from heavy steel that's folded and fully welded, creating a rigid platform that minimizes vibration and maximizes accuracy.
The integrated vacuum motor is a game changer for your workspace. Metal dust and grinding debris get extracted right at the source before they can spread throughout your shop. The top cover opens up to provide a flat grinding surface, perfect for those awkward castings and larger workpieces that need attention.

You need a 400V three-phase electrical supply with proper amperage rating. This is standard in most industrial and commercial facilities. The three-phase power provides more consistent performance and better efficiency compared to single-phase machines. You'll need to have an electrician install the appropriate power outlet and circuit if not already available in your shop.
For heavy material removal and aggressive grinding, start with 36 to 60 grit belts. For general deburring and surface preparation, 80 to 120 grit works well. For finishing and creating smooth surfaces, use 150 to 240 grit belts. Baileigh offers belts specifically designed for this machine in various grits suitable for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Belt changes are straightforward thanks to the simple tracking and tensioning system. You release the tension, remove the old belt, install the new one, restore tension, and adjust tracking. Most users can change a belt in just a few minutes once familiar with the process. The owner's manual includes clear instructions with photos.
Absolutely. The BG-679-3PH works excellently on aluminum, stainless steel, mild steel, and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Just make sure you're using the appropriate grit and type of abrasive belt for your specific material. Different metals may require different belt types for optimal results.
The machine itself has a footprint of approximately 1168mm x 660mm (46" x 26"), but you should plan for additional clearance around the machine for comfortable operation and maintenance access. We recommend at least 1.5 meters (5 feet) of clearance on the belt side for working with longer pieces, and sufficient space behind the machine for the dust collection outlet.
The integrated vacuum motor is quite effective for most applications and will capture the majority of grinding dust. However, if you're doing extremely heavy grinding all day or have strict air quality requirements, you may want to supplement it with a shop-wide dust collection system. The machine can be connected to external dust extraction systems if needed.
